The SeaNic Story: From a Simple Gift to a Sustainable Future

The SeaNic Story: From a Simple Gift to a Sustainable Future

SeaNic began at home in Teignmouth, Devon—not as a formal business plan, but as a birthday present.

In January 2022, I (Tony) bought Nic a Craft Club subscription. At the time, I was a full-time dad to our son, Arthur, and we were looking to carve out a little space for creativity amidst the beautiful chaos of family life.

The very first kit was a screen printing set. We mixed the water-based inks on the craft room table and carefully laid out the fabric. Almost immediately, Nic called out:

“This is amazing—you have to try this.”

What started as playful experimentation quickly transformed into something much more absorbing. Nic’s nature-inspired designs, combined with the hands-on, physical process of screen printing, struck a deep chord. After a long evening of printing, drying, and admiring the results, Nic said something that changed our trajectory:

“Somehow, we have to make this part of our lives.”

Rooted in Responsibility: Our Sustainability Values

Sustainability wasn’t a concept we adopted later to fit a trend; it was already deeply rooted in who we are. My earlier career in environmental project management shaped my perspective on the world, but the core values came from closer to home. My mum always said:

“Buy once, buy well.”

It’s a simple phrase, but it speaks volumes about longevity, care, and choosing quality over quantity. For us, creating sustainable clothing slowly and thoughtfully—using GOTS certified organic cotton and recycled materials—felt like a natural extension of our family values, not a compromise.

What is Slow Fashion?

To us, slow fashion means moving away from the "disposable" culture of the high street. It’s about creating hand-printed apparel that lasts for years, not weeks. By choosing organic textiles and eco-friendly water-based inks, we ensure our creative spark doesn't leave a heavy footprint on the planet.

Hand-Printed in Devon: The SeaNic Process

SeaNic has grown organically from those first craft-room prints into a dedicated UK slow fashion business. We’ve traded the craftroom table for a slightly more streamlined setup, but the heart of the process remains exactly the same.

Today, I juggle the operations and "dad life" with Arthur, while Nic continues to find inspiration in the Devon coastline and the natural world. Every T-shirt, hoodie, and tote bag is still hand-printed in the UK using water-based inks and a deep respect for the environment.

We believe that what you wear should tell a story—one of creativity, care, and a commitment to leaving the world a little better than we found it.

Welcome to SeaNic. Hand-printed, sustainable, and made to last.
